Club Notes – 26th February 2018

Baile an Locha minors played their second challenge game in pre-season with a good performance away to Clonduff. The squad have lost several very experienced competitors from last season but there is a very talented crop of U16’s ready to step up. Training continues this Wednesday at 9 pm on the 3G pitch at Circular Road in the town and next Monday night at 8 pm also at the 3g pitch.

The seniors will play a third challenge game in pre-season this Sunday at Pairc Baile Anna in Annsborough when they host newly promoted division 3 side Ardglass with a 10 am throw in. Training for seniors continues next Wednesday 7th March at the 3G pitch at 9 pm and Monday 12th March at the same venue at 8 pm. New players will be made very welcome should they wish to join at any upcoming training sessions.

The senior team are seeking sponsors of the match ball for all home games this season. We now have the first four games covered, and are looking another four donations. If any member, family or local business is interested please contact our coaching officer Gerard Lenaghan on 0785 426 2858 or email pro.aughlisanfin.down@gaa.ie for details.

Our U16s will compete in the top division in East Down for a third year running. They are in a very strong grouping which will see them face off against Bredagh and RGU for the first time in the East Down league. The other teams include Bryansford, Castlewellan, Loughinisland, St Pauls, Saul and Teconnaught.

It is a numbers game for U14’s who will have to contend with the 11 aside C league with our U12’s also in the C section at their grade.

Our Year 6’s will look to build on a very strong Year 4 showing back in 2016 and our Year 4’s although low in numbers will no doubt carry with them their skills learned from the Gaelic Start coaching in previous years.

After a brilliant effort we sold 51 Down GAA clubs draw tickets. This has generated much needed funds for the running of our club. Thank you to everyone who help sell or bought tickets.

The next meeting of the executive committee has been brought forward to Tuesday 6th March at 8.30 pm in the Fin Hall annexe. There will be a meeting of the coaching & games sub committee at 7.45 pm prior to this meeting.

The Fin Mud Run is back !! Date for your diary is Saturday 16th June 2018. There will be a meeting of the organising sub-committee very soon. If you can help out in anyway please attend this meeting.

Very well done to our U16 players Conor Donnelly, Peter O’Hare and Rhys Clarke who were invited back for a second trial with the Down Emerging Talent U15 football squad. The lads will hope to get another opportunity to impress.
