*Our Seniors picked up three from four points from their league fixtures against Kilclief and Ballykinlar in the past week to go third place in the league standings. The final league fixture is at home against the league winners Teconnaught on Friday 14th September. Before then the seniors will play Newry Mitchels in the Junior championship quarter final next Monday 10th September at 6.45 pm in Mayobridge. Good luck to our players and management team.
*Best wishes goes to our senior player Calum Croskery who suffered a serious leg injury in a recent game. We hope he recovers well and we see him back on the field again strong as ever.
*Our U16’s were understrength for the visit of a well drilled St Pauls side in their opening U16A championship game. Despite the visitors taking a ten point lead in the first half, the Fin scored two goals in quick succession from Morgan Croskery and Ethan Murray just before half time to leave it a three point game. Two more points from Croskery early in the second half brought the game back to the minimum before St Pauls rallied strongly to control the last 20 minutes to win the game. Well done to the four U14 players who stepped up to enable the fixture to be fulfilled. Scorers for the Fin were Morgan Croskery 1-7 & Ethan Murray 1-0. Odhran Maguire was a standout in nets. Next championship game is now a win or bust fixture for the Fin away to RGU. A win will see us through to the semi final, anything less we will exit this years championship
*Our U14’s won well in their final championship group game against Drumaness to top the group. They will now meet the runners up in the other group, Dundrum, in the semi final at a neutral venue on Saturday 15th September.
*Our U11’s won their opening league game at home to Dundrum last Wednesday evening. Dillon Steele top scored with 4-1. Conor OHare (1-2), Caolan Flanagan (1-1), Marty og Flanagan (0-2), Brogan Clarke (0-2) also on target. Excellent performances from Ryan Quinn and David Steen in defence and Ryan Croskery in nets. Final score Aughlisnafin 6-08 Dundrum 3-01. Next game is at home against Bredagh C this Wednesday at 6.45 pm.
*Our U8.5s were in superb form in the Inaugural Peter Walsh Memorial Tournament hosted by Bryansford on Saturday morning. Winning all four group games against St Brigids ogs, Castlewellan ogs, Carrickcruppen and St Pauls they progressed to the ¼ final of the cup competition. After seeing off the challenge of Clonduff to reach the semi finals they lost out to the eventual cup runners up Bryansford. Thanks to Bryansford for the invitation and well done to all our players. Their final tournament will be at the home of Down football, Pairc Esler, for the Ian McKeown Memorial hosted by Newry Shamrocks on Saturday 6th October. We won the Shield there last year and it will be our third time attending.
